The wind on the rose stage was steadyish at about 8 miles an hour. But it was coming almost straight at me. The only way to avoid the fire raking across my face while eating fire, or creating a fire plume, would be to perform with my back to the audience. Whatever I did, I was kissed by the dragon. I was "makin-out" with the fire all day. With that said, the shows were pretty darn successful.
There was an awesome pile of cool people that showed up. Anna and Kristina were visiting from Colorado and I really wanted to impress them. A very boisterous lad had his face all painted up like a skull on fire, he was so into it that I wanted to immolate myself just to watch him cheer. A little fairy princess sat in the front row and competed with him for enthusiasm. I will have to say that I missed seeing Anastasia Danger.
One of the cool moments happened right away at the opening gate. I stopped a couple of wee lads that reminded me of my little brother and I. The whole family were players, all in period garb and ready to go. I must have laid out at least 5 palm kills, crushing fire out with my hands. Then I lit my hand on fire and transferred the fire back to other torches. I lit my fingers on fire and did the same. I smoothly jammed a torch in my mouth and pulled off a 5 second plume that scorched my lips, Then I ate 2 torches and looked down at the lads. The littlest was staring, not quite comprehending what the heck was going on. But Raistlin cooly met my eyes and with a smart-aleck tone said, "O.K., what are you gonna do now?"
The "Flourish, Fool and I Show" was unbelievable. Inconceivable, amazing, astounding, astonishing, surprising, incredible, crazy, off the hook fire. Kelsey and Jules were juggling fire when Kelsey caught on fire. The fringy edges of the scarf she had tied around her waist were flaming up towards other, more melty clothes. "You are on fire! Drop the Torches!" exclaimed Jules and I. While Jules caught the flaming torches still coming at him, I grabbed a wet blanket and smashed her out. Quickly, I grabbed the dropped torches, handed them to her and said "The fire is out, now get back to work." They immediately went on as though nothing had happened.
We did some stunts that I may have mentioned in previous blog posts and all of a sudden they looked at each other. Some sneaky, excited, unspoken communication occurred. Next thing you know, Kelsey is doing a handstand off of Jules's knees. Jules hands me a torch and says, "OK, now light this torch and jamb it in her legs then blow a fireball off it." Holy crap. It completely caught me by surprise. But that is what this is all about, so I jammed the torch in her butt and blew a fireball off of it. Incredible danger-cool. More crazy awesome went down before the show ended. It was a great way to end the day! Ashley caught it on video and several people got great pictures that will be posted soon.
